Hi. My name is Kilah!
Thank you for being here. There is a scene in a movie that often comes to mind when I think about my purpose and mission as a therapist. The scene is quiet—no rush, just wind, space, and the weight of everything the character had been through. The character had transitioned into life after incarceration and is walking alongside an old, weathered fence that stretches across an open field. You can see and hear his hesitation and grief, but also a glimmer of hope as he searches for a letter from an old friend–one that offers encouragement and hope for the reader. In many ways, therapy can feel like this–showing up while holding questions, pain, or even hesitation.
My hope as a therapist is to walk alongside you and to offer that hope–reminding you that you are not alone.
My work is deeply shaped by the vulnerability and strength of the individuals I have had the privilege of meeting along my journey as a social worker and therapist. I have worked with individuals in a variety of settings–PHP/IOP mental health care (partial hospitalization and intensive outpatient programs), hospice care, and a non-profit supporting individuals experiencing housing insecurity.
My experience and interests are in grief, caregiver support, life transitions, anxiety, and depression. I often take an eclectic approach to therapy, meaning that I integrate different therapeutic modalities. Some of the therapeutic modalities (or techniques for therapy) I utilize include CBT (which focuses on thoughts, feelings, and behaviors), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (which focuses on accepting thoughts and committing to values-driven behavior), and Narrative Therapy (which focuses on exploring and reshaping your story).
My desire is to create a space where you can be known and heard. Nothing is “too small” or “too much” here. You have a place here, no matter what your journey has been.
