Welcome! I'm thrilled that you're taking this courageous step towards prioritizing your well-being.
I'm Shaquayla Burns, and I'm honored to join you on your journey towards healing and growth. Embarking on therapy can feel daunting, but please know that you're not alone. Together, we will navigate this path, supporting each other every step of the way.
My journey in social work began in the realm of juvenile justice back in 2014. Since then, I've had the privilege of working with individuals across various age groups, from children as young as 10 to adults up to 74 years old. Throughout my experience, my true passion has always been guiding individuals towards finding and nurturing their own happiness. Remember, self-care isn't selfish—it's essential for your well-being. You can't pour from an empty cup.
The approach I take to therapy is collaborative, but YOU are the expert on you. While my traditional training has been in cognitive behavioral therapy and dialectical behavior therapy, I am also a TBRI trained practitioner. I pride myself on being trauma-responsive and aware.
In our therapy sessions, I will approach our work together as a collaboration. While I bring expertise in cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), dialectical behavior therapy (DBT), and trauma-informed care; I recognize that you are the ultimate expert on yourself! Additionally, my training in Trust-Based Relational Intervention (TBRI) allows me to better understand and respond to the effects of trauma.
Healing is a journey. Let’s travel together!
